World War Z - PS4

As i turn my console on I have a pain in my chest, I know exactly what's going to happen...... day one update..... being in a suburb where the australian NBN must be two cans connected by string I know i'm in for a bad time. Is this the games fault ? no not really , is it a fault due to consumerism and the demand of the public wanting something before they can have it so a producer puts something out with the mentality of fixing it later ? ..... That debate is for another time, but i have plenty of time to think about it while i do the 25gb+ update........

Start up - connecting to WWZ services starts to flash in the bottom right corner...... then I get a connection error - connection to WWZ services failed ....... seems as if im reliving my horrors of logging onto anthem for the first time as well. I take a couple of deep breaths and click X to retry, it fails. I see that it gives me the option of O to skip. So of course I take it.

On the start up screen it shows a military / mercenary, obviously the character that is given to me. The options of co-op campaign , multiplayer , collection and settings .... I get the feeling that the game is very team based, never to be played on your own.

Co-op campaign gives the option of online or offline, the difference is your in a party of 4, the other 3 are either gamers or AI computers. I click on online and hope for the best.

The following screen shows 'episodes" there missions based all over the world, New york, Jerusalem , Moscow , Tokyo, or quick play. lets give new york a try.

In the new york there is 3 options again, Descent , Tunnel vision and Hell and High water. Once again I go the first option being

Decent - left to die by the army helicopters buzzing overhead, four new yorkers have no choice but to fight their way to freedom. Rumor tells of a shady character who will get them out of the city on a subway train - for a price.

Gameplay - the first thing that picks my attention is the lobby, I like games with progression. to earn exp for using certain types of weapons and classes definetely tugs at my inner RPG gamer. It also gives the satisfaction of growth while spraying away at the 100's of zombies. I naturally pick soldier type class, but there is others like medic etc. The use of a silencer weapon instantly is appealing, It saves attracting these zombies from all over the building. one of my team mates runs off like rambo and gets himself taken down by a lurker..... Welcome to online gaming, i run over a revive him. the thing is the zombies are in abundance but as long as its not a thick stream you can nearly just defend yourself with your melee attack. That is untill either a Bull (giant sized zombie wearing what can be described as explosion gear) or a Creeper(skinny yet very quick and agile) take you down. No matter the health they have the ability to tackle you and pin you down, allowing them all just to attack. At one point we all have to decend the lift shaft trying to escape the building, my team mate remains behind for to long getting tackled to the ground by a creeper, we all try to get back to rescue him but to no avail. he is just slowly killed and then forced to time out and quit, we push on with a team of 3. For some reason this team all consists of cowboys, running off in seperate directions, slowly getting taken down one after another. I try reviving as many as i can before i am tackled by a bull while trying to revive my partner...... I rage quit and go watch some anime for a little while to calm down.

It only took 3 episodes for me to finally return to the game, my enjoyment of the new game is dwindling quickly, not completely due to the game but more of my own characteristics. the games depth isnt what i want out of something, if I am sacrifising time away from my kids I need something to dive into head first and realise I have been playing for 3 days and the house is on fire.... i dont get that feeling from this game. Maybe if my team consisted of 3 friends who had microphones and we could all talk then the gameplay would be alot more enjoyable. But at this point its a no from me.

10hrs later i'm still of the same opinion, the story just doesnt have the depth that i would of liked, its very fast paced. kill kill kill, dont get me wrong it definetely has alot of good points and for a fast paced zombie killing game it definetely gets that right. but its not for me.

Cinematic - visually like most games these days its graphically very pleasing. the view of 100's if not 1000's of zombies pouring over walls makes the heart skip a beat, especially when you realise your gun only has 140 bullets in it..... do you save the last one for yourself ?

Conclusion - all in all its an ok game, i definetly wont rag out on it and for the $59 purchase price its definetly got more pros than cons. but im a retrogamer at heart, even my rpgs i like turn based still, i would rather a lot slower paced story driven game than just spray and pray type game. like i said if i had many other friends who played the review would probably be completely different.

Thanks alot for the read guys and if you have any comments whether you agree or disagree then dont hesitate to yell out, untill next time...... good luck and happy hunting.
