Where do i start......
hey guys and girls,
welcome back and thank you for taking the time to read my review. Once again i have to say this review is an opinion only, we here at retrogaming downunder dont give number based reviews solely because its so opinionated. Never would we want a review to turn you - the player , away from a game..... that being said.... I heavily enjoyed mortal kombat Story.
- Story wise it was a breath of fresh air for a fighting game. I know the games mechanics etc are all dependant on bashing the opposition, but i enjoyed having a game where i wanted to watch the cut scenes in the middle. which is a whole different section of this review by the way.
Now my only problem i have with games / movies etc that have a timeline based story .... there heavily confusing and hard to keep up with. There is the whole terminator based problems, What if someone dies ? what if you die ? is there a different story line , multi verse .... etc etc etc. But it seems to be held together pretty well. Some people may be sick of Lu Kang and Raiden but i definetly am not.
It was an awesome throw back to what it felt like where it all started.
The way the story line merged with gameplay was unbelievable, to of come from mortal kombat original to this now. i question whether our children will have the same leap in techknowledgy.
cinematics - what can i say here other than wow .... visually i thought it was perfect, i didnt notice any frame rate drops etc but truthfully i dont watch for them either. many times i have thought something is fine and someone else has complained. maybe im so used to retro gaming than any new age game cant fault in my eye visually that is.
-Gameplay this follows directly on from the cinematics, it was difficult to tell where game play started and cinematics ended.
but this is where i must get negative for a moment- gameplay speed..... im not sure whether its my age or not but the gameplay speed has slowed down exponentially, im unsure whether this is so the more professional players can frame count to tie in there combos or not but i just felt like the gameplay speed wasnt what it used to be. mortal kombat was known for leaping around , raiden diving at you head first, lu kang bicycle kick or scorpions classic spear - get over here !! ( admit it , you read that in his voice )
I dont want this to deter you from the game, i am not a fighter game kind of player. so for me i was more than happy to go through the game on medium and just enjoy myself as i went along for the cinematic ride. i stated earlier than i didnt see any frame rate drops etc earlier and that also spreads over to gameplay itself. i cant fault it other than its speed.
All in all if you played mortal kombat for the last 25+ years, 11 entries then you should have the nostalgia like myself to definetely over look any of the little hurdles that have arrisen with new age gaming.
Thanks once again guys for reading and if you have any constructive critisicm dont hesiate to comment or message the page, we are always welcoming
regards,
Steven Dalzell
